Review
Land Rovers are known for their quality, performance, capability, versatility, and looks as well. They are some of the most desirable SUV’s in the market. The new 2011 Land Rover LR4 is here, and already seems like a good contender in the world of sport utility vehicles. The 2011 LR4 was featured in the 2010 New York Auto Show.
Overview of Changes
It has many new features and improvements compared to the
LR3. The engineers of the Land Rover thought of a few improvements, which made the new LR4 a transformed, more desirable vehicle. Some of these changes are reflected in the new exterior, which include some improvements in aerodynamics to the front end, to reduce drag and it gives it a smoother look. It also includes some new LEDs. Other important changes include a completely redesigned interior and dashboard, which includes new seats, improve dash and better controls, and changes to the center console as well.
Performance
Other changes are reflected in the new performance, which includes a more powerful v8 engine, a 5.0 liter that can give you more power and torque at 375 pound/feet and 375 hp. If you thought that the more luxurious look was enough, what do you think of that?
The transmission is an automatic six speed ZF, electronically controlled. The transmission includes three modes - the automatic mode, the sport mode, and the manual control mode.
The handling on the road has been improved as well. The new 2011 Land Rover LR4 has a new suspension, better traction control, a powerful brake system, revised steering, and the capability of the all-terrain system includes five settings for general conditions, rock crawl, snow/grass/gravel, sand, and mud.
On The Road
As expected, the 2011 Land Rover LR4 was a smooth ride both on and off the highway thanks to the air suspension. Acceleration was smooth, and the promise of 60 mph in 7.5 seconds was fulfilled. The Land Rover LR4 gripped the road surface with confidence, although it felt a little tippy in tight corners. This is usually expected in a tall vehicle. The steering and braking performed well. Off-road is where the 2011 Land Rover LR4 truly shines with its excellent 4-wheel drive capabilities and high clearance. Depending on the road conditions, choose from General Driving, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Sand, Mud and Ruts, and Rock Crawl from the convenience of the control knob mounted on the center console.
Interior
The luxurious interior of the 2011 Land Rover LR4 will not disappoint the new vehicle shopper. The front bucket-seats come with leather trimmed upholstery and electronic adjustment controls. The driver’s seat has lumbar support to ease back strain during those long road trips, while the heated driver’s and passenger’s seats will add to the comfort of the passengers on those early winter mornings. To match the leather seats, the fully adjustable steering wheel is leather wrapped for a better grip. The convenience package also includes power locks, power windows, and power mirrors in addition to cruise control, keyless entry, and a universal garage door opener. On hot summer days, there will be no need to sweat while you’re cruising in your new 2011 Land Rover LR4. The cabin features automatic climate control with a dual-zoned front air conditioning system as well as a separate rear system. For the passengers’ listening pleasure, the electronics come standard with an AM/FM/CD stereo system, but can be upgraded to a premium sound system. For those who enjoy watching the sky from inside their vehicle, choose from a dual moon roof, a generic sun/moon roof, a panoramic roof, or a sun roof with power slide/tilt.
Safety Specifications
Besides all the luxury and power, the new LR is strong in safety features. It offers rain sensing wipers, fog lights in the front and rear of the vehicle, six airbags, an occupant detection system for the front passenger airbag, all terrain ABS system, trailer stability assist, electronic brake assist, and other well worth safety features, including the patented LR integrated body frame.
Under The Hood
The 2011 Land Rover LR4 has plenty of power with a beefy 5.0 Liter V8 engine with a 375 horsepower rating and 375 pounds of torque. The 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive provides smooth shifting and plenty of pickup. While many other vehicles offer a larger towing capacity, this Land Rover will easily pull most trailers and boats.
Exterior
Other models of the 2011 Land Rover LR4 include the HSE, HSE Plus, HSE LUX, and HSE LUX Plus - these are upgrades with features that are more luxurious and more gadgets. You can build your LR4 the way you like it. Colors include Alaska White, Bali Blue, Zermatt Silver, Nara Bronze, Rimini Red, Stornoway Grey, Santorini Black, Lugano or Marmaris Teal, Ismir Blue, Ipanema Sand, Galway Green, and Buckingham Blue. The only non-metallic color is the Alaska White. Interior colors include Ebony interior, Almond Arabica, or Almond Nutmeg - leather seats. The interior trim finishes include Black Lacquer or an option of real wood trim in Straight Grain Walnut. There are many optional packages to choose.
Pros
When car enthusiasts think of the ultimate utility vehicle, they think Land Rover. The 2011 Land Rover LR4 continues the tradition of a top-of-the-line, 4-wheel drive vehicle with the best off-road capabilities available coupled with an elegant, comfortable interior. In fact, even the high price tag is attractive to those who can afford this ride.
Cons
If a driver can afford this vehicle and is ready to pay the price, there isn’t anything bad to say about this vehicle. However, if the new car shopper is on any type of budget, they should pass this one by and find a more affordable utility vehicle.
Summary
The LR4 starts at around $48,100, which can be a bit pricey for some pockets. However, with a V8 powerful engine, new redesigned interior, gadgets galore, a patented body frame, great safety features, and an all terrain system, this price may not seem so bad to some consumers.
